Marburg im Laternenschein

Marburg in the light of lanterns

 © Georg Kronenberg

Begin your atmospheric tour in Marburg’s historic old town through the old town´s lantern-lit lanes. The tour guides invite you to a journey of discovery in the evening dusk and reveal historic background information and recount interesting anecdotes from the moving history of the university town.

This tour is rounded off wonderfully by the surprising appearance of the Marburg’s Nachtwächter (night watchman), who not only brings to life rituals from a bygone age, but also entertains visitors upon request with Marburger Nachtwächter liquor.

The tour may end with a visit to one of Marburg’s traditional and archetypal old town restaurants. Here you can see out the day with a midnight meal. The midnight meal consists of rustic, Hessian specialities such as farmhouse bread and home-made sausage.

The best starting point for the tour is the market place. You can of course select alternative meeting place such as in a restaurant or at a bus car park. Of course, this will change the duration of the tour accordingly.
