Museum of Art
The Kunstmuseum Marburg art museum has been one of the city's and the local region's key art presentation and communication venues since 1927. Together with the Museum für Kulturgeschichte in Marburg's palace, the Landgrafenschloss, it enriches the university city's cultural offers.
The architecturally impressive listed museum building was sensitively restored and modernised, then reopened to the public in 2018. A selection of the collections owned by the museum is now on display in its fully accessible exhibition spaces.
On display are works by classic modern art representatives such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky, along with those of many of their contemporaries. The reopening highlights also include the first comprehensive exhibition of outstanding works from post-war avant-garde artists from the Hilde Eitel collection. Also on show are 19th century works, primarily from artists from the Willingshausen artists' colony, for example Carl Bantzer, Johann Giebel and Wilhelm Thielmann, as well as Otto Ubbelohde's paintings.
